Adriane Leveen

Dr. Leveen is a Senior Lecturer in Hebrew Bible on the New York Campus and Lead Judaica Specialist in the Jim Joseph initiatives at HUC. She received her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from the University of California at Berkeley under the supervision of Robert Alter and a Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. Dr. Leveen is a trained psychotherapist and practiced for 17 years in both Israel and the United States before getting her doctorate in biblical studies. She has been published in Prooftexts, The Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Torah: A Women's Commentary, and Women Remaking American Judaism. Her book, Memory and Tradition in the Book of Numbers was published by Cambridge University Press in 2008. She is currently at work on a project analyzing the role of the Stranger in Biblical Narrative.
