The small staff of the Kalsman Institute is extended throughout North America and Israel via an international network of nearly 2000 professional and lay leaders impacting our communities through work in Judaism, health and healing. Initially the Kalsman Institute had a core group coined the Kalsman Partners, who were invited together in 2001 to determine the mission and direction of the Kalsman Institute. Gatherings in 2003, 2005 and 2007 brought the Kalsman Partners together as leaders of congregations, social service agencies, educational institutions, and innovative organizations, for learning, networking and sharing at our unique intersection of Judaism, health and healing. The meetings gave the Institute the opportunity to reformulate and rethink the Jewish community's impact and work in illness and wellness. Those intimate and multi-disciplinary retreats focused on topics including stigma, the arts, medical economics, aging, and more. In addition to relationships, books, collaborations, and courses were some of the many ripples generated by those gatherings, which helped to build our field and the Institute. As the Kalsman Institute moved from our launch or "incubator" phase of development as an organization, our efforts shifted to focus on a larger group leading the field of Judaism, health and healing.
