Acting Dean during the 1996/1997
academic year, Rabbi Marder, has served in the College-Institute's
administration since 1989, in many capacities, including Associate
Dean. Rabbi Marder has served on the board of the College-Institute's
Wexner Rabbinic Residencies Program, as chair of L.A. campus admissions
committees, student advisement, the development of co-curricular
programs and supervision of rabbinic fieldwork. Since the early
1980s Rabbi Marder has taught the topic of prayer in the hospital
to HUC-JIR rabbinic students.
In 1997 he was appointed Director of the School of Rabbinic Studies
for the California campus.
A graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook,
Rabbi Marder was ordained at the College-Institute's New York
campus in 1978. Prior to joining the HUC-JIR administration, he
served Temple Israel of Long Beach, California; he was Jewish
chaplain at UCLA and St. Vincent Medical Centers.
