In the catalog
As much as librarians love having things appear in strict
alphabetical order, there are times when we wish they wouldn't! When
searching for "Israel", our online catalog creates an alphabetic
list which interfiles the country Israel with people and organizations
whose name begin with Israel.
To find publications put out by the state of Israel, do an author browse search. To find books about Israel, do a subject browse search.
On the shelvesThe Library of Congress somewhat equates Israel with Jews. Jews outside of Israel are all shelved in the middle of the Israel section under DS 135. Groups of non-Jews living in Israel are shelved in specific sections (see below)
| Books on Israel are generally shelved in DS 100-151. General works ... DS 101-102 Jerusalem ... DS 109 (first description, then Temple Mount, other special places, history, etc.) Other regions, towns ... DS 110 (in alphabetic order by place name) Antiquities ... DS 111 History ... DS 114-128 (biography, historiography, general, political, by period (early to late)) Special topics ... DS 129-151 Antisemitism ... DS 145 Zionism ... DS 149-151 (general, then specific groups & movements, biography) |
