This
site concerns the "the largest collection of Jewish documentary film
footage in the world. The vaults contain material shot in Israel before
and after the establishment of the State in 1948, motion picture records
of many Jewish communities in the Diaspora and two special collections
relating to the Holocaust." Users may browse a vintage poster collection
and view selected movies online (requires Internet Explorer, Windows Media

Searchable directory of "materials of interest to those researching
their Polish ancestry." Although the site focuses on genealogical
resources (for example, surname search, online forum, databases), it
will be of interest to anyone looking for information about Polish history,

RootsWeb.com
Billing
itself as "The Oldest & Largest FREE Genealogy Site," RootsWeb
includes search engines and databases, family trees (over 70 million names),
surname and geographical mailing lists, and message boards. The site also
hosts other volunteer projects such as the Immigrant Ships Transcribers
Guild and Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. Although it remains free
to users, RootsWeb is now sponsored by Ancestry.com, whose databases (both
free and pay) can also be searched from this site.

Although parents are the target audience, anyone who wants to
learn more about Judaism will find useful information here. The editors
and contributors represent all of the Jewish denominations and cultures.
They provide an introduction to Jewish belief, practice, holidays, community
building, lifecycle events, and parenting. They also offer virtual communities
with facilitators to discuss the content. The explanations of concepts
and the comments of users are thought-provoking.

Short Stories From Eastern Europe and Beyond
This collection of 32 short stories from all over the world explores
what it means to be Jewish in the modern world. Actors such as Leonard
Nimoy, Rhea Pearlman, Lauren Bacall, and Jerry Stiller read stories by
Sholom Aleichem, I.B. Singer, I.L. Peretz, Isaac Babel, Grace Paley, Cynthia

Jewish Food Mailing List Archive

This online resource for international genealogists "is
a non-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to providing genealogical
and historical records and resources for world-wide access." Divided
into eleven world regions, it is searchable by countries, provinces, states,

Yiddish
Radio Project
This is the site of an NPR documentary about the golden age of
Yiddish radio (1930-1950), which depicted the daily life of Eastern European
Jewish immigrants in their new homeland. The dramas, political commentary,
advice shows, talent shows, and music provided entertainment and comfort.
The site has photos of radio personalities, sound clips, a documentary,
and an explanation of the work of Henry Sapoznik, who found and restored
the disks with the programs.

Jewish Reader: A Guide for Book Groups
The National Yiddish Book Center offers readers an opportunity
to study new and classic works. Each month, a new book is listed along
with a summary, an interview with the author, selected passages, a critical
review essay, and discussion questions. Past months' selections are archived,
among them Isaac Bashevis Singer's Shosha, Michael Chabon's The Amazing
Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and Sholem Aleichem's Tevye the Dairyman.

Finder: A Directory of Free Census
Records Over 10,000 links to census information for those researching
family histories. Primarily containing sites with U.S. data, the site
also has some links to Canada, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Types of
sites provided included county/parish/province archives, message boards,
and maps. Other features include a guide to historical museums in the
U.S. and a section for Native American information. Note that not all
areas of the countries covered are represented.
