ASSAF: Judaism, Health and Healing for Physicians
December 2008 through March 2009.

The Kalsman Institute, in partnership with Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Los Angeles, is offering a program of Jewish study for Jewish physicians. Our goal is to use Jewish study as a source of renewal - to help physicians integrate clinical and spiritual life. It is for physicians interested in exposure to learning directly related to Judaism and health.

Since we know how hard it is for healthcare professionals (and all professionals, really) to get away from work and personal life to take classes, we are offering a retreat and distance education course for just an hour or two a week, using the internet and telephone. The program includes:
  • Opening Shabbat retreat in Los Angeles, December 12-14, 2008
  • Ten weeks of learning
  • Closing retreat in L.A., March 1, 2009.
Physicians that participated in the pilot course in Phoenix last winter felt that their stress was reduced, their sense of community was increased and their access to texts and sources on Judaism, health and healing was enhanced. If you or someone you know has interest in the program, please go to www.huc.edu/kalsman and click on the palm tree on the right of the home page for the brochure, more information and online registration. Future modules will be held for other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, therapists and other specializations. Please email jpelc@huc.edu with any questions. Please forward this notice to your community.
