The RHSOE Alumni Association Celebrates Milestones

The Rhea Hirsch School of Education celebrated three milestone events at their recent Alumni Kallah, February 1st-3rd, 2008. This year's Alumni Kallah marked the first time that Dr. Michael Zeldin, an alumnus of the school, was present in the capacity of Director of the RHSOE.

On Motzei Shabbat, RHSOE alumni celebrated the retirement of former RHSOE Professor and Founding Director, Dr. William Cutter. Alumni of every generation spoke about Dr. Cutter and, on the occasion of his retirement, the RHSOE Alumni Association created the William Cutter Educator in Residence Fund, which will sponsor educational scholars on the Los Angeles Campus. The first scholar will be Dr. Deborah Kerdeman, who herself is an RHSOE graduate and Professor of Education at the University of Washington. Dr. Kerdeman will be in residence in the fall of 2009.

This year's RHSOE Alumni Kallah was entitled, "Lost in Cultural Translation: Wearing and Carrying Israel in America," and was led by another alumni, Dr. Tali Hyman, the most recent faculty addition to the RHSOE.

Prior to the Kallah, the Alumni Association Leadership Team, led by Chairperson Julia Berger, met to discuss goals for the association and issues of Recruitment and Development for HUC-JIR.
