 HUC-JIR Graduation Honors Jewish Leaders, Alumni and Graduating Class of 2008 at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York  The 2008 Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, Recipients with HUC-JIR Administration

Balka; Robert M. Heller, past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Union for Reform Judaism; and Dr. Nechama Tec, sociologist and Holocaust scholar, each of whom was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. Rabbinical, cantorial, education, and Jewish communal service alumni were awarded honorary doctorates in recognition of their 25 years of service to the Jewish people and the larger community. Alumni of the School of Graduate Studies were presented with the Founders' Medallion in honor of their contributions to scholarship. Doctor of Ministry degrees were bestowed upon ordained clergy of the Jewish and Christian faiths. Students were awarded the Master of Arts in Religious Education, Master of Sacred Music, and Master of Arts in Hebrew Literature. The convocation featured a memorial tribute to Rabbi Carole F. Meyers, z"l, a beloved member of her rabbinical graduating Class of 1983.
