Reuven Firestone on "Media and Violence from a Jewish Perspective" at Sixth Doha Conference of Inter-Faith Dialogue in Qatar

Rabbi Reuven Firestone, Ph.D., Professor of Medieval Jewish and Islamic Studies at HUC-JIR/LA, addressed the Sixth Doha Conference of Inter-Faith Dialogue, held in Qatar on May 13 and 14, 2008. The conference theme was "Religious Values: Perspectives on Peace and Respect for Life." Over 150 religious leaders from 44 countries attended and explored peace in world religions, desecration of religious symbols, and attitude toward other religions. Dr. Firestone spoke on "Media and Violence from a Jewish Perspective."
Conference organizers say, "From the perspectives of the three monotheistic religions we seek to reach common and harmonious cooperation and a genuine desire to lay the foundations of world peace. And for that very reason we as a team of true believers and promoters of the inter-faith dialogue wish to share our vision with the global community, to resolve world conflicts and restore peace and harmony across the globe."
Dr. Firestone's areas of expertise include early Islam and its relationship with Jews and Judaism, scriptural interpretation of the Bible and Qur'an, and of holy war.
