Adrienne Souther-Geffen Appointed to Board of Overseers of the Los Angeles School of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion

September 15, 2008 - Robert C. Kopple, Chair of the Los Angeles Board of Overseers of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, has appointed Adrienne Souther-Geffen to the Board of Overseers for the LA Campus.

Souther-Geffen has had a long and successful career in the field of fashion and advertising. Her career began in New York City where she was the Fashion Director for the Allied Corporate Buying Office. Originally from Portland, OR, Souther-Geffen moved back to her hometown to continue her career in fashion with I. Magnin, Nordstrom, and opened up the Saks Fifth Avenue market in the Pacific Northwest.

Recently, Souther-Geffen has turned her attention towards the Portland community, taking part in various philanthropic works there. For the past thirteen years Souther-Geffen has been intimately involved in fundraising to build the Women's Health Center at Oregon Health and Sciences University. This project was completed in 2006 and is considered one of the leading centers for women's health in the country. Souther-Geffen is also a dedicated patron and sponsor of the arts in Portland, and formed "The Committee to Benefit the Arts of Oregon," which benefited from the opening of Saks Fifth Avenue in Portland.

Adrienne Souther-Geffen is married to Stan Geffen, founding partner of the accounting firm, Geffen, Mesher & Co, and current President of the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation. Souther-Geffen's daughter, Callie, is currently in her second year of rabbinical studies at HUC-JIR/LA. The Souther-Geffen family is active in the Portland Jewish community, where they have been members of Congregation Beth Israel for thirty years.

HUC-JIR's Board of Overseers, to which Adrienne Souther-Geffen was appointed, is comprised of distinguished communal leaders of the Reform Movement, for each of its campuses in Cincinnati, Jerusalem, Los Angeles and New York. The Board of Overseers provides support and guidance for the academic and cultural programs of the Los Angeles School.
