 Richard Siegel Named Interim Director of the School of Jewish Communal Service at HUC-JIR/LA Richard Siegel was named Interim Director of the School of Jewish Communal Service (SJCS) at HUC-JIR/LA. The SJCS was created in 1968 and has trained some 650 Jewish professionals who serve today communities and congregations in North America and around the world. The SJCS directs its students by combining the values of the Jewish tradition with skills in non-profit organization management. In doing so, it challenges graduates to push the world in the direction of Gemilut Hasadim, acts of loving kindness and to work for Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. In his position as Interim Director, Siegel will guide faculty in the development of new courses, work with agencies in the Los Angeles area to negotiate internship placements, teach advanced courses, recruit faculty, and develop new programs. Richard Siegel has had a distinguished career in Jewish communal life as the head of the National Foundation for Jewish Culture from 1979-2006, where he currently serves as Executive Director Emeritus. He recently served as Interim Director at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Siegel holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Brandeis University and an MA in Jewish History from the Jewish Theological Seminary.
