 ISJO Names Program Associate Institute for Judaism and Sexual Orientation (IJSO) 
The Institute for Judaism and Sexual Orientation (IJSO) and the Jeff Herman Virtual Resource Center has hired a Program Associate, Jay Golden. Golden brings a variety of experiences from her participation and leadership in both Jewish and Queer communities and is very excited to be starting her professional career with the IJSO and HUC-JIR.
Golden received a BA in American Studies with focus in critical gender theory and manhood from Smith College. The Institute for Judaism and Sexual Orientation at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) is the first and only institute of its kind in the Jewish world. It is unique in its place at the juncture of academia and professional training at the Jewish Reform Movement's seminary. The Institute was founded in 2000 to help educate HUC-JIR students on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, on how to challenge and eliminate homophobia and heterosexism and to learn tools to be able to transform the communities they encounter into ones that are inclusive and welcoming of LGBT Jews. Founded in 1875, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is the nation's oldest institution of higher Jewish education and the academic, spiritual, and professional leadership development center of Reform Judaism. HUC-JIR educates men and women for service to American and world Jewry as rabbis, cantors, educators, and communal service professionals, and offers graduate and post-graduate programs to scholars of all faiths. With centers of learning in Cincinnati, Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and New York, HUC-JIR's scholarly resources comprise renowned library and museum collections, the American Jewish Archives, biblical archaeology excavations, research institutes and centers, and academic publications.
