 The Bonnie & Daniel Tisch Fellows Program Presents Rabbi Larry Hoffman, Ph.D. Tuesday, November 20 from 10:45-12:15 in the CL, HUC-JIR/New York Rabbi Larry Hoffman, Ph.D. will speak on: "Limits, Truth, and Meaning: The Changing Rhetoric of Jewish Responsibility" Rabbi Hoffman will lead us through a text study and discussion of the question of how a leader's words can shape the way people understand the world and can move people to act. HUC-JIR/NY students will join Rabbi Hoffman for the discussion and lunch. The HUC-JIR community is welcome to join the discussion. Rabbi Hoffman is Barbara and Stephen Friedman Professor of Liturgy, Worship, and Ritual and Director of the Synagogue 2000 Initiative for synagogue spirituality, HUC-JIR/New York. His research, writing and classes fall into three categories: 1) the history of Jewish liturgy; 2) ritual studies (the application of the human sciences and philosophical thought to the act of human ritual); 3) contemporary worship and modern Jewish spirituality. The Bonnie and Daniel Tisch Fellows Program is a three-year intensive leadership training program that will help selected rabbinical students inspire and encourage the Jews of modernity to willingly and joyfully embrace Judaism. Each year, five exceptional second-year rabbinical students will be named Tisch Fellows and participate in a range of special programs, including 3-5 days of themed seminars per year; a summer rabbinical residency program; a fifth-year mentoring program that will extend two years beyond their ordination; and the opportunity to pursue their academic and intellectual interests through individualized coursework and independent studies. Tisch Fellows will receive full tuition scholarships and living stipends, enabling them to focus completely on their studies and professional development.
