Rabbi Julie Pelc Speaks for Healthcare Reform

Rabbi Julie Pelc, Assistant Director of the Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health, represented HUC-JIR on October 18 at a 48 hour vigil sponsored by CLUE (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice), speaking as a member of Jewish clergy in favor of Healthcare Reform and was then asked to stay for a press conference later that morning. The healthcare vigil included having Polaroid pictures taken of all those in attendance, writing individual notes to the governor, signing a giant 'Reality Check', and sharing many personal stories of frustration and loss. There was also a screening of the movie 'Sicko' that was well-attended, and nearly 25 TV stations covered parts of the vigils. All together, more than 1000 people participated in the six cities this vigil took place, and we certainly had an impact.
