 Five DeLeT Fellows Launched Into Careers as Day School Teachers Five DeLeT fellows were launched into careers as day school teachers on July 26. The five are Danit Almany, Alexandra Braunstein, Tobi Elman (a graduate of the SJCS), Rachel Minkove and Jared Wolfe. They will be teaching at day schools in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, and San Francisco. These new day school teachers will join 30 other DeLeT alumni who are teaching in Jewish day schools and taking on leadership positions in Jewish education on both coasts and in the Midwest. As new alumni, they will participate in the DeLeT induction program, a program which supports teachers through the inevitable rough moments in their first year of teaching. Five new fellows began their studies this summer and will begin their internships and their HUC coursework in September. DeLeT, a program of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education (RHSOE), is dedicated to fostering teaching excellence in Jewish day schools in North America. DeLeT at HUC is conducted in consultation with its partner DeLeT program at Brandeis University. DeLeT carries out its mission by recruiting energetic, reflective people with Jewish commitments and a passion for learning, providing them with a 13-month fellowship program, preparing mentors to be reflective practitioners who can support a novice learning to teach, and encouraging schools to support ongoing teacher learning. The current fellows studied with distinguished faculty and alumni of HUC-JIR, including Rifka Ben Daniel, who completes her first year as DeLeT's Educational Director. She succeeded Louise Latham, MAJE '77, who served in this role since the founding of the program. Educators-in-residence were Ann Sanguinet and Rebecca Salimon, who both graduated from the both Rhea Hirsch School this past May. This occasion also represents a milestone for Dr. Michael Zeldin, the Founding Director of the DeLeT program, as it marks the culmination of Dr. Michael Zeldin's first year as the new Director of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education.
