Appoints New Vice President of Finance, Robert J. Goldsmith

Robert GoldsmithRabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), announced the appointment of Robert J. Goldsmith as Vice President of Finance. As the chief financial officer of the College-Institute, Goldsmith will manage the national business office and be responsible for the development and management of the budget. Appointed January 1, 2002, to this national position, he will be based in Cincinnati - one of the four international centers of learning of the College-Institute. Rabbi Ellenson stated: "We welcome Rob and look forward to his guidance in advancing the mission of the College-Institute. We are also delighted that Arthur Grant will continue as Vice President for Administration and Strategic Planning."

Goldsmith brings to HUC-JIR almost twenty years of experience in the fields of finance and business. He most recently served as the Vice President for Finance and Administration at the State University of New York, College at Purchase, a college with 4,000 students, 600 employees, a $20 million payroll, an all-funds operating budget of $60 million, endowment of $30 million, and a $90 million capital construction projects budget. As the chief business and financial officer, Goldsmith played an active role in the strategic and operations planning and co-chaired the information technology planning and oversight team, among many other responsibilities.

Before coming to SUNY, Purchase, Goldsmith served as Vice President for Finance and Auxiliary Services at The Sage Colleges in Troy, New York, and Director of Business Affairs at the State University of New York, College of Technology at Delhi, and has had additional experience as Budget Director and Senior Accountant.

Goldsmith received a B.A. in Accounting from Marietta College (Marietta, OH) and a M.B.A. with a concentration in Higher Education Finance and Administration from the University of Kentucky Graduate School, College of Business and Economics. He is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the SUNY Business Officers Association, and the U.S. Department of Education National Review Panelists. He serves as the Brotherhood President of the United Jewish Center in Danbury, CT, where he also sings in the choir and is a member of the Board of Trustees.
