HUC-UC Ethics Center to host "Opera Rap: A Panel Discussion on Capital Punishment"

The HUC-UC Center for the Study of Ethics and Contemporary Moral Problems is hosting “Opera Rap: A Panel Discussion on Capital Punishment” on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 7:00 pm in Mayerson Auditorium on the campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, 3101 Clifton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio. “Opera Rap” features guest speakers in a conversation on a specific production or topic related to the Cincinnati Opera’s upcoming Summer Festival. “Opera Rap: A Panel Discussion on Capital Punishment” is inspired by the Cincinnati Opera’s July presentation of Dead Man Walking, a new American opera by Jake Heggie.

Joseph P. Tomain, Dean, University of Cincinnati College of Law, will moderate the discussion that will delve into issues surrounding the capital punishment debate. Panelists include: Peter Bronson, Editorial Page Editor, Cincinnati Enquirer; Dr. Jack Cottrell, Professor of Theology, Cincinnati Bible College; Alphonse Gerhardstein, Civil Rights Attorney; and, Sister Ruth Kettman, Director of the Justice and Peace Office, Diocese of Covington.
