Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, leading commentator and activist in today’s Jewish politics, will respond to perspectives from both the right and left wing of the political arena and help clarify the complex dynamics of Israeli politics.

Rabbi Hertzberg received his doctorate from Columbia University and was ordained at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America and written frequently for The New York Times and The New York Review of Books. He has served on the faculty of Dartmouth and Columbia and is currently the Bronfman Visiting Professor of the Humanities at New York University. The former President of the American Jewish Congress, Rabbi Hertzberg has written quite a few books such as The French Enlightenment and the Jews, The Zionist Idea, including his most recent work A Jew in America: My Life and a People’s Struggle for Identity.

This lecture is sponsored by the Bamberger Family in memory of their father, Professor Fritz Bamberger, who served for many years as Professor of Jewish Intellectual History at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion/New York.
