Robin E. Harvey of Cincinnati was
inducted as member of the Board of Governors of HUC-JIR and Chair
of Cincinnati Board of Overseers
Robin E. Harvey of Cincinnati was inducted as a member of the Board of Governors
of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion on Monday, June 9, 2003
during services held in conjunction with the Board of Governors meeting, in
the Petrie Synagogue on the New York campus of HUC-JIR. Burton Lehman, Chair
of the Board of Governors and Rabbi David Ellenson, President of HUC-JIR inducted
her. Harvey has also been appointed Chair of the Cincinnati Board of Overseers,
succeeding Alvin Lipson who has served in the position since 2000. Harvey is
the first woman to Chair the Board of Overseers in the history of the College-Institute.

Governors and especially excited to have her as Chair of the Cincinnati Board
of Overseers,” stated Dean Kenneth E. Ehrlich. “Robin has proven
herself to be an effective leader at many organizations throughout the city
and we are confident that the future of the Reform movement is well placed in
her hands.”
Harvey is a partner at Baker and Hostetler LLP and has extensive experience
in labor relations and employment law, including litigation, counseling, collective
bargaining, arbitration, and employment dispute resolution on behalf of employers.
Harvey is Baker and Hostetler’s Litigation Group Coordinator in Cincinnati,
as well as the Cincinnati representative to the Firmwide Political Action Committee.
Prior to joining Baker and Hostetler LLP, Harvey was a partner and a member
of the Firmwide Executive Committee of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff.
She also practiced in labor relations and employment law at Paxton & Seasongood
from 1982 to 1988. Prior to this, Ms. Harvey served as resident counsel for
the Hopi Indian Tribe in Oraibi, Arizona, and as a trial attorney with the United
States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C.
Harvey is active in local, civic, and charitable organizations, and served
as Chair of the Cincinnati Citizens Cable Communications Board. She is the Immediate
Past-President of The Wellness Community Board of Trustees of Greater Cincinnati/Northern
Kentucky and former President of the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Chapter
of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Harvey chairs the International
Conference Center Subcommittee of Quest of Northern Kentucky, and is past Chair
of the Women’s Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Club.
The Board of Governors of the College-Institute is responsible for governing
HUC-JIR’s four campuses in Cincinnati, Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and New
York. Its 55 members, including Cincinnatians, Robert M. Blatt, Stanley M. Chesley,
H. Jerome Lerner, Alvin Lipson, Manuel D. Mayerson, Theodore L. Schwartz, Jerome
S. Teller, and honorary governor Charles H. Tobias, Jr. meet three times per
year and its multiple committees cover nearly every aspect of activity at HUC-JIR.
The Cincinnati Board of Overseers consists of lay members of Reform Jewish
communities throughout the Midwest and South who serve as representatives and
advocates of HUC-JIR in their respective communities. The members of the Cincinnati
Board of Overseers secure and contribute resources to perpetuate and strengthen
the academic and cultural programs of the College-Institute in general, and
the Cincinnati campus in particular.
