FREDI REMBAUM APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT, WESTERN REGION
AT HEBREW UNION COLLEGE-JEWISH INSTITUTE OF RELIGION
Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of
Religion, has announced the appointment of Fredi Rembaum as HUC-JIR’s
Director of Development, Western Region. Starting June 2, 2003, Rembaum will
direct HUC-JIR’s fundraising and development campaign across the Western
Region of the United States. She will be in charge of the capital campaign for
the Western Region and will head the planned giving campaign. In addition, she
will work on other key areas such as community work and outreach.
Rabbi Lewis M. Barth, Dean of HUC-JIR/Los Angeles, stated: “I am delighted
to be welcoming someone with Fredi’s ability to the team at HUC-JIR. She
has all the attributes necessary to lead a successful fundraising campaign in
this time of growing economic crisis, when universities across the country are
feeling the effects of a decline in funding and donors. It is important that
we have on board someone like Fredi with a proven track record in fundraising
and development. The skills that she possesses will enable us to raise the funds
which HUC-JIR needs for it to develop, thrive, and meet the needs of Reform
Jews everywhere.”
Rembaum has had a long and successful history of community development and fundraising
within the Los Angeles Jewish community. She has worked for the Jewish Federation
of Greater Los Angeles for the past 19 years, holding a number of key development
positions there. Well respected for her work both within the Jewish community
and beyond, she is widely regarded as one of the city’s most creative
community professionals.
Among her previous successes, she helped raise $20 million in 2002 for The Jewish
Federation Jews in Crisis Campaign and $50 million from the Los Angeles community,
while Assistant Campaign Director for Operation Exodus, the effort in the early
1990s to raise funds to rescue and resettle Soviet and Ethiopian Jews in Israel.
More recently she has won widespread acclaim for her work in creating the successful
Tel Aviv-Los Angeles Partnership as Director of Israel and Overseas Relationships.
Since 2001, she served as Development Director of International Programs.
Rembaum has also worked as a senior outreach worker for the City of Los Angeles,
a private psychotherapist, and a family education consultant for the Bureau
of Jewish Education in Los Angeles. Before taking on a development role with
the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, she worked as Assistant Director
for the Council on Jewish Life.
Rembaum received her Bachelor of Science in Pre-Professional Social Work from
New York University and earned a Master of Social Work from the University of
Southern California.
