Rabbi Ken Kanter Appointed Regional Director of Admissions & Recruitment at HUC-JIR/Cincinnati

Rabbi Kenneth A. Kanter has been appointed the Regional Director of Admissions & Recruitment at HUC-JIR, Cincinnati. He will begin work on August 1, 2005. In this role, Rabbi Kanter will have responsibility for the recruitment of students throughout the central United States for all of HUC-JIR's programs. In addition, he will oversee an extensive array of youth programs offered on the Cincinnati campus. Rabbi Kanter joins a College-wide admissions and recruitment team that includes his counterpart regional directors on the New York and Los Angeles campuses, the director of student outreach in Jerusalem, and the associate provost for enrollment and planning, who oversees admissions & recruitment for HUC-JIR nationwide.

Rabbi Kanter was ordained at HUC-JIR in 1980. He is currently the head rabbi of Congregation Micah in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was the founding rabbi and instrumental in the synagogue's development. Prior to his service there, he held positions as rabbi of Mizpah Congregation in Chattanooga, TN, and Assistant Rabbi of The Temple in Nashville. He has also served as an adjunct professor in the Divinity School of Vanderbilt University, and as Jewish chaplain at Vanderbilt and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Rabbi Kanter has pursued a wide variety of Jewish and secular communal service activities, including positions as president of the Nashville Board of Rabbis, president of the Nashville Clergy Association, chair of the Mayor's Faith Advisory Committee, member of the Jewish Federation of Nashville Board, chair of the National Conference for Community and Justice, and vice president of the Country Music Foundation. He has received numerous honors and awards from organizations as diverse as the Chattanooga Bar Association and the National League of Broadway Producers. In May of 2005, Ken will receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from HUC-JIR.
