Steven Windmueller's new book, "You Shall Not Stand Idly By"
November 16, 2004, New York - Jewish activists now can get
all the tools they need to effectively practice community
relations with the handbook just published by the American Jewish Committee.
You Shall Not Stand Idly By is designed to assist professionals
and lay leaders engaged in community relations to understand
the field's best practices and proven strategies. It is the
first book of its kind in more than 30 years.
"Jewish community relations is a dynamic field, in which new
crises and new priorities constantly appear," writes Steven
Windmueller, one of the Jewish community's leading practitioners
of community relations, and the book's author. The aftermath of
September 11, and the political fallout affecting Israel and
world Jewry from the past four years of Palestinian terror,
"have given rise to a host of issues that today challenge our
community," he writes.
Windmueller, director of the Hebrew Union College's School of
Jewish Communal Service in Los Angeles, has assembled a rich
resource based on his more than 25 years experience as a Jewish
communal professional. Prior to joining the HUC faculty in 1995,
he served for ten years as the director of the Jewish Community
Relations Council in Los Angeles, and also previously worked at
the American Jewish Committee. Windmueller holds a PhD. from the
University of Pennsylvania.
