 Summer Institute of the School of Jewish Communal Service at HUC-JIR/Los Angeles June 20 - August 10 The Summer Seminar of the School of Jewish Communal Service (June 20th-August 10th) will highlight a number of exciting learning opportunities. President David Ellenson will launch this seven-week program with a one-day intensive text seminar on Monday, June 20th. Among the nearly thirty students enrolled in this year's program will be a number of foreign students from such countries as Poland, Brazil and Israel. The School's first dual-degree MBA and Jewish Communal Service students will be a part of the entering class of fifteen. For the first time in the history of the SJCS there will be students enrolled in each of the USC-HUC dual degree programs, including social work, public administration, communications management, and public arts studies, in addition to two joint masters students enrolled in the Rhea Hirsch School of Jewish education and the communal service school. Among the special features for 37th summer program will include a one-week intensive course introducing the themes of "Conflict, Civility and Community" as identified in the pages of the Talmud taught by Professor Dvora Weisberg. Courses this summer will include Strategic Planning, Organizational Development and Culture, Leadership in Jewish Communal Service, and Fundraising and Financial Resource Development. Twelve courses will be offered by the Communal Service School over the course of the summer. "Tuesdays at Lunch" will present a seven-week luncheon series on "Institutional Change" featuring a series of prominent national Jewish and non-Jwish leaders who have been invited to address different aspects of transitioning organizations and synagogues to compete in the market place of the 21st century. Jeffrey Solomon, President of the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies and a leading voice on American Jewish institutional life, will serve as the first Rabbi Louis Bernstein Scholar-in-residence and present the annual culmination address on Wednesday evening, August 10th, at the School's closing exercises.
