Based on course presentations in Professor Mark Kligman’s music classes this
portion of the website introduces student to the diversity of Sephardic culture through music. The geographic distribution of
Jews in Western Europe and Americans resulted in a form of music distinct from Jews in North Africa, the Levant (fertile crescent
along the Eastern edge of the Mediterranean), Middle East and Yemen. Jews in each of these regions have similar practices but are
expressed and nuanced by different cultures. In this presentation maps of each region provide a geographic location of each
