Explore your Jewish identity at the 2010 College Colloquium! HUC-JIR's College Colloquium brings together progressive Jewish college students from across North America to share their voices and opinions in the pursuit of personal, spiritual and academic growth. Celebrate Shabbat, meet one another and delve into all HUC has to offer. Utilizing the resources of the American Jewish Archives and the Klau Library, participants will experience engaging seminars led by world renowned HUC faculty and HUC-JIR rabbinical students.
The weekend will be organized into tracks of study. Participants can choose to focus on one track or get a taste of all of them.
Tracks include:
Spirituality in Your Home and on Your Way: For many, college is a time of seeking and wrestling with the Divine Presence in one's life. Join rabbinical students and faculty to investigate different Jewish perspectives on God and God's role in all aspects of our lives.
Social Justice and the American Dream: Using the resources of the American Jewish Archives, we will explore where Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, intersects with changing idealism in America from manifest destiny through fingertip technology.
The Changing Face of the American Rabbinate: Explore how HUC-JIR began and how it is changing. Learn about the genesis of the Reform movement, its platforms and values, and what big changes will be happening in the next few years.
Spend Shabbat with other college students at HUC-JIR, and have the experience of a lifetime!
